13-16 Upper additional "decks" were added either in thin wood or plastikard, with the "impulse" engine surrounds being cut from 5mm plastikard.

17-20 These photos (and also photo 26: Page 3) show me fitting the secondary and saucer hull together. Photo 20 shows the "Captains Yacht" in place. This part of the model was typical of many problems I had where the CGI model and the actual 3D model varied in design. The "Captains Yacht" is quite different when it is seen detaching in "Insurrection" to photos I have of the actual model used mainly in "First Contact"!

21-24 These photos show the various stages of adding detail to the model. I used thin EMA Model Supplies ABS plastic for the heavier main panelling, but I used PVC parcel tape for all the finer panels.

25-28 More photo's showing the detailing. If the final model were to have been left with the tape in place I would not have used it as it does sometimes (not always!) have a tendency to peel off. However, as moulds were to be taken from this model and the final model made in fibreglass, the tape only had to last long enough to do the moulding process. Once again as I studied the photo reference for the model I again found many areas where the CGI and 3D model did not match up. I therefore stuck to what the 3D model looked like wherever possible.
